Life Story / Obituary
Nancy H. Ervin, 97, died peacefully at home on June 6. Nancy, one of six children, was born in Racine, WI to Augustine and Grace M. (LaMarca) Stretti. She graduated from Park High School. Nancy met the love of her life, Richard D. Ervin in high school and was united with him in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in 1952. She was happily married to him for over 54 years before his passing in 2006. In her younger adult years, Nancy helped out cashing patrons’ payroll checks at the family tavern. For over 30 years, she was employed at the Von Schrader Company as a secretary, retiring in 1991. After retiring, Nancy did volunteer work for the Racine Zoological Society, the Cancer House, Festival of Trees and belonged to the Solstreif Mission women’s quilting group at Zion Lutheran Church. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran and then United Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, jewelry making and was very accomplished at counted cross stitch, creating many beautiful keepsakes. She also loved playing cards with her friends, even playing shortly before her recent illness. Nancy and Richard spent several winters traveling around the southern states with their travel trailer enjoying retired life and meeting new friends. Most of all, Nancy (“Grandma, and “GiGi”) loved spending time with her family in Racine, MI and IL and attending many of her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities including sporting events, BMX stunt shows, piano and ballet recitals and graduations. Despite the hurdles of several life-challenging age- related ailments, Nancy lived independently until her recent move to assisted living. Nancy was very social and well -liked for her pleasant demeanor. Her appearance was always fashionable and her housekeeping impeccable. But most importantly she will be remembered for her unconditional love of family, her generosity, keen interest in family happenings and her incredible memory of, and interest in family events and family relationships. Her mind was sharp up to her last day. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
