Richard Leuenberger passed away April 24, 2018. Richard was born in Elgin, Illinois in 1924 to Leo and Mabel Leuenberger. He attended local schools in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School in 1943. After high school graduation he entered the U.S. Army. Richard eventually served in the South Pacific including Okinawa and Japan with the 1344th Engineering Construction Battalion. After the war he was stationed in Tokyo and served until 1946. At the conclusion of his military service he enrolled at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois where he graduated in 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. After college he joined Nelson Electric Supply in Racine, WI. Richard worked at Nelson Electric for 43 years retiring as President of the company in 1993.

In 1957 Richard married Ellen Jane Martin in Minot, North Dakota. Richard and Ellen made their home in Racine where they raised two sons, Thomas and Robert. Ellen preceded Richard in death in1989. In 2005 Richard married Margaret "Muffy" Fresen in Glenview, Illinois.

Richard is survived by his wife Muffy. He is also survived by his sons Thomas (JoAnn) of Racine and Robert (Sandra) of Waxhaw, NC. He is further survived by his grandchildren Christopher, Elizabeth, Thomas, and Rebecca Leuenberger of Racine and Sarah and Ellen Leuenberger of Waxhaw, NC., a Brother-in-law, George Martin of Gautier, MS. and other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife Ellen he was also preceded in death by an infant grandson John Richard Leuenberger.

Funeral services will be private. Memorials, if desired, can be made in Richard's name to the Racine Community Foundation or the First Presbyterian Church of Racine.
