Abelardo Luis Sr., age 67, was called home by the Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2019 while surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born on December 9, 1951 in Tlacolula, Oaxaca, Mexico to the late Mario and Leandra Luis-Vasquez, later moving to Minatitlan, Veracruz.

The most important thing to Abelardo was family; including his beloved wife of 44 years, Asunción. He sought to always provide the best for her and their 3 children, thus moving to Racine in 1991, and was employed by Mid-America Steel Drum in Oak Creek for nearly 28 years.

Abelardo always had a warm smile and a kind greeting for anyone he ran into. He enjoyed singing and dancing at family gatherings, cheering for Cruz Azul soccer, testing his luck on lottery tickets and the slot machines, but especially spending time with his grandchildren and family. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was also a founding and integral member of the Mayordomía al Sr. de Tlacolula committee, where he served twice as Mayordomo.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children: Abelardo Jr. Hilda (Alfredo) Sandoval and Josue Luis; grandchildren: Alfredo, Isela and Antonio Sandoval-Luis, and Anahi and Aidee Luis. He is further survived by siblings: Adelina (Guillermo) Ruiz, Efren Luis, Gerardo (Martha) Luis, Luz Maria (Victorino) Luis, Noemi (Abel) Lopez. Abelardo will be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and many dear friends and family.

Abelardo was preceded in death by his wife, Asuncion Luis, parents Mario and Leandra, in-laws Esteban and Petra, first born daughter Rosa Isela, and brother Israel Luis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie Street, on Friday December 6, 2019, 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. and at church on Friday morning from 10-11 a.m. with Mass to follow.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Beer and the emergency department staff of Ascension All Saints for their care.
