Asunción María Luis (Nee: Antonio), age 66, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones, on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. Asunción was born on August 23, 1952 in Tlacolula, Oaxaca, Mexico to the late Esteban and Petra Antonio-Martinez.

Asunción grew up in Tlacolula, Oaxaca where she was united in marriage to Abelardo Luis Sr. in April of 1975. Once married, they moved to Minatitlan, Veracruz where she lived until August of 1993 when she, and her family, moved to Racine, WI.

Asunción was absolutely devoted to her family, including her husband, three children and five grandchildren, as well as to her extended family. She had an unparalleled passion and skill for cooking and was also a great seamstress. She made many quinceañera and wedding dresses over the years as well as thousands of tamales. She enjoyed watching baseball and was a fan of las Chivas de Guadalajara soccer. She also delighted in picking her plants and flowers every spring and trying her luck at the casino.

Asunción will also be remembered for her unwavering faith. She was a founding member of and played an instrumental role in the Mayordomía al Sr. de Tlacolula celebration held annually. She was the cornerstone of a group of families who prepared Sunday breakfast every other month at the former Cristo Rey and thereafter, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She would also take every chance she had to visit the Shrine of Mary at Holy Hill.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 44 years, Abelardo Luis Sr.; her three children Abelardo Luis Jr., Hilda (Alfredo) Sandoval, and Josue Luis; her grandchildren: Alfredo, Isela and Antonio Sandoval-Luis, and Anahi and Aidee Luis. She is further survived by siblings: Anastacia, Blandina, Ma. Del Rosario, Martha, Abel, Noe, and Ricardo. Asuncion will also be remembered fondly by many dear friends and family members, aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of nieces, nephews and godchildren, as well as by all members of the Mayordomia al Sr. de Tlacolula committee.

Asunción was preceded in death by her parents Esteban and Petra, in-laws Mario and Leandra, and first-born daughter Rosa Isela.

Asunción María Antonio de Luis falleció a la edad de 66 años, rodeada de su familia y seres queridos el martes, 14 de mayo de 2019 en el hospital Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. Asunción nació el 23 de agosto de 1952 en Tlacolula, Oaxaca, México, hija de Esteban y Petra Antonio-Martínez.

Asunción creció en Tlacolula, donde se unió en matrimonio a Abelardo Luis en abril de 1975. Ya casados, pasaron a radicar en Minatitlán, Veracruz donde vivió hasta agosto de 1993 cuando, con su familia, llegó a vivir a Racine, WI.

Asunción fue totalmente dedicada a su familia incluyendo a su esposo, tres hijos y cinco nietos, al igual que a su familia extendida. Tenía una pasión y un toque único para la cocina y también fue excelente costurera. En el transcurso de los años hizo varios vestidos de quinceañera y de boda y miles de tamales. Le gustaba ver el beisbol y en futbol le iba siempre a las Chivas. También se alegraba escogiendo sus flores y plantas cada primavera y probando su suerte en el casino.

Asunción también será recordada por su gran fe. Fue un miembro fundador y un pilar en la planeación y realización de la celebración de la Mayordomía al Sr. de Tlacolula cada año. También fue una pieza clave del grupo de cocina para preparar almuerzos en la Iglesia Cristo Rey y después en San Patricio y aprovechaba cualquier oportunidad para visitar a la Virgen María en Holy Hill.

Permanecen para honrar su memoria, su devoto esposo de 44 años, Sr. Abelardo Luis; sus tres hijos Abelardo Luis, Hilda (Alfredo) Sandoval y Josué Luis. También sus nietos, Alfredo, Isela y Antonio Sandoval-Luis y Anahí y Aidée Luis. También la recordarán sus hermanos: Anastacia, Blandina, Ma. Del Rosario, Martha, Abel, Noe y Ricardo. Entre quienes la recordarán con mucho cariño están sus muchos familiares y amigos cercanos, tíos, tías, primos, sobrinos, ahijados y también todos los miembros del grupo organizador de la Mayordomía al Sr. de Tlacolula.

Se adelantaron para apartarle un lugar sus padres Esteban y Petra, suegros Mario y Leandra y primogénita Rosa Isela.
