“In peace and with a tranquil heart, I will both lie down and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety and confident trust.” Psalm 4:5

Greenella “Gwen” aka “Honie” M. McWhorter-Lewis earned her heavenly wings March 13, 2020.

Gwen was born in Blue Springs, MS on October 27, 1935 to the late Daniel & Luella McWhorter. She was an excellent basketball player for which she received a scholarship. Gwen left the South in her late teens and headed North for better opportunities; she settled in Racine, WI. She found a job at High Ridge Hospital, where she worked until she retired. She loved Jesus; she was appointed on the Mothers Board at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Gwen loved to watch football and basketball; she loved talking to family and friends. Gwen was very active in church until she could no longer participate. Her joy were her grandchildren & great grandchildren.

Gwen leaves to cherish her memories: four daughters, Monique “Neeke” McWhorter-Adams of Lake County, IL; Michelle “Shell” Lewis-Phillips of Dallas, TX; Morona “Ronna” Leigh Lewis of Fort Worth, TX; Delnita “Dee” Lewis of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, London Eddie Payne-Phillips of Phoenix, AZ; Vontel Peet of Fort Worth, TX; Phaheem Henderson of Racine, WI; Monterious Rozell Visor of Waukesha, WI; Debrina Rockett of Milwaukee, WI; Alexis (Lexy) DeShel Simpson of Fort Worth, TX; three great granddaughters and six great grandsons. Her loving sisters and brothers, Jeff (Treva) McWhorter; William “Boo Man” McWhorter; Maryon (Lawrence) Mack; Jennie Johnson; Tammie McWhorter all of Racine, WI; Geraldine (Jack) Hattix; Webster B. "Dank" McWhorter of Blue Springs, MS; sisters-in-law, Corene McWhorter and Dorothy McWhorter; brother-in-law Donnie Bostick; her road dog growing up, cousin Varnell (Nee: Banks) Williamson; her best friend Mary A. Taylor; a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of good friends and “adopted” children,

Gwen was preceded in death by her loving parents, Daniel and Luella (Nee: Banks) McWhorter; three sisters, Irma Stone , Sherry Denise McWhorter, and Helen Bostick; four brothers, James, Lester "Brit", Jimmie D., W.C. "Mack" McWhorter; and her beloved son Glenn R. Henderson.

Gwen Lewis was a woman of grace, poise, dignity, class & courage. She was kind to everyone she met. She had a beautiful and loving spirit. She was courageous til the end; she was the original “G.” She will be missed. RIP Queen.
