Harland Richard Sohr, age 100, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He was born in Racine, March 1, 1920, son of the late Frederik and Julia (Nee:Rehder) Sohr.

On April 26, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Riffer. They shared 70 beautiful years together before Dorothy preceded him in death on March 25, 2011. On May 6, 2012 at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Racine, he was united in marriage to Susan Gorsiski.

Harland was employed by J.I. Case Co for 35 years retiring in 1975.

Harland was active throughout his 100 years. In retirement he and Dorothy were known as the “Crafty Pair” and worked as program directors at Woodsmoke Park in Florida where they were snowbirds. Harland continued to bring his wife Sue to Florida and also enjoyed many years in the sun.

Harland was a veteran of WWII and participated in the Normandy invasion. He was a truck driver in the 86th Chemical Mortar Battalion and helped support the Allied troops advance across Europe as a driver on the Red Ball Express. He took his Honor Flight November 1, 2014 with his grandson, Ron. Harland will be remembered for his gardening and in his later years he loved to sell tomatoes on the side of the road. He had great devotion and dedication to his family and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his beloved present wife, Susan; beloved children, Deborah (Alan) Wentzell, Richard (Sharon) Sohr; grandchildren, Ronald (Lisa) Wentzell, David (Maggie) Wentzell, Christopher Wentzell (Cara Fleischmann); great grandchildren, Jackson, Nathan, Carter, Grayson, Ava, Hendrich, and Myles; stepchildren, Brande Fugarino (Jeremy), Jon R. Gorsiski, Dustin R. Gorsiski; step great grandchildren, Neiko Fugarino, Austin Fugarino, Nickolas Fugarino, Alex Fugarino, Issis Gorsiski, and Natalyia Gorsiski; many other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death his infant granddaughters, Jessica and Andrea Sohr; his brothers, Carroll (Rita) Sohr and Frederik (Margaret) Sohr.
