Life Story / Obituary
Joyce Ann Vargo
April 19, 1935 – March 25, 2022
Our beloved, Joyce Ann Vargo, passed away on March 25, 2022, from multi-organ failure due to complications arising unexpectedly from Covid-19 while traveling, after a month-long battle in a hospital in Las Vegas. Born and raised in Racine, Joyce retired to Scottsdale then Los Angeles, where she enjoyed an illustrious career. Starting at Johnson Wax and modeling in the 1960’s, she went on to earn her degree from University of Wisconsin-Parkside and pursued a career in teaching with Racine Unified. As an award-winning educator, she was featured in national magazines for her creation of a successful reading program for at-risk students, “Project Talent.” Joyce then found success as a real estate broker in Chicago, being honored by the National Association of Home Builders as a top marketing agent from 2000-2005. After retiring, she pursued her love of photography and creative writing, creating innovative food photographs and magazine columns for national magazines. She loved fashion, the symphony, playing bingo, listening to Tony Bennett’s music, fine dining, going to movies and the theater. She was immensely proud of raising her daughter who attended a top-10 university law school and graduated with honors. Joy is survived by Suzette (“Suzy”) Vargo-Wagner of Los Angeles, beloved brother Charles Vargo and sister-in-law Mary Vargo of Sarasota, FL, and many relatives and friends. A private memorial service is being planned. Burial arrangements will be handled by Marsh Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, Racine. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Joyce Vargo Memorial Fund on GoFundMe, link to donate:
