Leah Shovers, age 88, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018, at her residence in Encinitas, CA. She was born In Woodstock, IL, October 26, 1929, daughter of the late William and Sonia (Nee: Michnovitch) Woolf.

Leah graduated from University of Iowa with a degree in Speech Therapy. She was employed by Racine Unified School System initiating a special education program at Wadewitz Elementary School and working in the early days of the Head Start program at Hansche Elementary School. In 1952 she was united in marriage for fifty years to Norman Shovers who preceded her in death July 8, 2003. Leah was a longtime member of Beth Israel Sinai Congregation and served as the first woman president of the synagogue. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her son Bill and his wife Sherri of Carlsbad, CA; her granddaughter Liz of New York City; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her siblings, Celia (Bill) Westphall, Sylvia (Maury) Begun, and Marvin (Ann/Margaret) Woolf.

Services will be held at the Maresh - Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, Sunday, May 6, 2018, 10 A.M. with Rabbi Martyn Adelberg officiating. Interment will follow at the Racine Jewish Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association have been suggested.
