My best friend and husband, Richard A. “Rick” Jackson Jr., age 73 passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at our home surrounded by me, our sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, 2 dogs Cougar/Blanco, and our grand puppy Link following a courageous battle with 4th Stage Glioblastoma Brain Cancer.

Rick graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1963”, where he excelled at sports and received a basketball scholarship to the Rockhurst College, Kansas City, MO. He pitched two varsity baseball seasons at Rockhurst and was selected in the initial (1965) Major League Baseball Free Agent Draft by the Pittsburg Pirates’ organization, for which he pitched for three seasons. After his pro playing career ended because of arm injury problems, he returned to college, completing his bachelor’s degree at nearby UW-Parkside.

On September 1, 1966, he was united in marriage to his best friend and the love of his life Olga “OJ” DeLaO. Throughout his career, Rick was employed with Walker Manufacturing, Miller Brewery, McGraw, N. Christensen & Son Real Estate and lastly with First Weber Real Estate. He was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Rick also belonged to the Rockhurst College Suzzers and the Racine Lakeview Hawks where he made lifelong friends. A fan of all sports, Rick loved his time coaching his sons through all their sports. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and get togethers with his friends. Above all, Rick will be best remembered for his great love and devotion to his family. He was the best husband, father and Poppa RJ to his grandchildren. Rick was loved by all.

Rick will be missed greatly by his best friend and loving wife of fifty-one years, Olga “OJ”; his children, Daniel Jackson, Richard (Becky) Jackson III of Racine; his four grandchildren, Steven Botsford, Christopher, Lucas, and Lauren Jackson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Anna Moreno of Racine, John DeLaO, Rosa Mathe of Dallas, TX, Dinah (David) Heide, Richard DeLaO, all of Racine, Alice (Thomas Tyre) DeLaO of Waukesha, Joseph DeLaO of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father Otto Nasticky, father -in-law and mother-in-law, Cosme and Anita V. DeLaO, and brothers-in-law, Sal Moreno and John Mathe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 30, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Tuesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. Please wear something bright. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to The McGuire - Letsch Scholarship Fund or St. Lucy’s Catholic Church have been suggested.

We would like to thank Dr. Robert Gullberg, Dr. Wade Mueller, Dr Siker, Dr. Jennifer Connelly, Dr. David Knight and their staffs for the excellent care that Rick received. Also a huge thank you to Kindred Home Care and Kindred Hospice for all their help in helping me grant Rick his last wish to die at home surrounded by his family and friends. A special thank you to my sister Rosa for dedicating the last nine months to helping keep Rick at home.
