Life Story / Obituary
Billie Lorene Stilley, age 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. She was born in Bloomfield, IA, October 16, 1931, daughter of the late Wilbur and Vera (Nee: Stookesberry) McMains.
Billie graduated from Davis County High School and went on to earn her BS degree from the University of Northern Iowa. It was while attending the University of Northern Iowa that she met the love of her life Terry David Stilley and they were united in marriage November 1, 1953, in Bloomfield, IA. Both being teachers it was the Racine Unified School District that brought them to Racine in 1962. Billie taught kindergarten for 43 years retiring from Dr Jones Elementary School. She was an active member of Christ Church United Methodist where she served as a member and former president with the United Methodist Women, and with the Treasury Team. She also was an active member of the Racine chapter of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). Billie enjoyed gardening, cooking around the holidays, music, traveling with her retired teacher friends. Above all she treasured the time spend with her family especially her grandson and most recently her great grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her daughter Beth Beechum; grandson, David (Kori) Beechum; great grandchildren, Roman, Royce and Rae; nieces, Virginia Hopkirk and Diane McPherson; other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Terry in 1993 and sisters, Florence (Fred) Meyer, Louise (George) McNelly.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church United Methodist, 5109 Washington Ave, Saturday, August 15, 2026, 11 am with Rev. George Kafer officiating. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service 10 – 11 am.
Memorials to Christ Church United Methodist have been suggested.
