Life Story / Obituary
Char passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Racine, WI to Joseph and Pearl (Nee: Wyzgowski) Kowbel on March 7, 1931. On June 25, 1949, at St. Stanislaus Church in Racine she was united in marriage to her first true love Eugene “Gene” Wieczorek. Living in Wind Point on the lake were happy times for 34 years. In 1998 they built a home in River Meadows on the river. She loved her yard with beautiful roses and a fishpond. She filled the guest bedrooms with her collections of dolls. After a few years in their new home Gene passed away on February 10, 2000. They had celebrated their 50th Anniversary on June 25, 1999. Char and Gene had a love for Europe and had traveled extensively throughout for many years. A few years after Gene passed Allan Bley came into her life. On November 14, 2003, they were married at St. Joseph Church. After her marriage to Allan, she became a member of St. Mary’s By the Lake Church. After almost 10 years of marriage Allan passed away on August 22, 2013.
Char had been a member of St. Mary’s Auxiliary, a past member of Racine Country Club and Meadowbrook Country Club. She had been an active volunteer at St. Monica’s Senior Living where she was known as “The Cookie Lady”.
Survivors include her son, Perry and daughter-in-law Marlene Wieczorek of Cottage Grove, WI; grandchildren, Nicholas (Beth) Wieczorek, Lindsay (James) Haasch; great grandchildren, Tyler and Kaitlyn Wieczorek, Heidi, Trevor and Joey Haasch; sister-in-law, Gloria Kowbel; nieces, Susan (Erv) Keller, Karin Glasgow, Julia (John) Gonzales, Geraldine (Gerald) Tobalsky, Joyce Wieczorek, Marie (Izek) Rika, Debra Stevens; nephews, Mark (Bobbi) Kowbel, and David (Dorothy) Kowbel. Larry Urbaniak. She is further survived by Allan’s family; children, Gail (Pete) Toler, Michael (Marie) Bley, James (Michelle) Bley, Tom (Kathy) Bley; Allan’s brother, Gary (Shirley) Bley; sisters-in-law, Betty Bley and Iva Bley; other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene; her daughter, Kim M.C. Wieczorek; her parents, Joseph and Pearl Kowbel; brothers, Stanley, Roman and Walter (Kuba) Kowbel, nieces, Christine Kowbel, Kathy Urbaniak, nephew, John Kowbel, sisters-in-law, Eleanor Mischo and Delores Wieczorek, brothers-in-law, Bob Wieczorek and Jim Wieczorek.
Char had 3 very close friends for almost 70 years that played Royal Rummy once a month and had many trips up north- Rose Esaian, Delores Bauer, and Judy Mihelich. Judy survives. Laurie Jacob was a dear friend that devoted 3 times a day during Char’s many years of her illness. She was a big part of her life. Laurie took care of Char’s precious dog Harley for everyday walks and vet visits.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Char's life will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday March 26, 2025, at St. Mary's by the Lake Catholic Church, 7605 Lakeshore Dr. with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the Mass for Visitation, Wednesday at 10:00 am at the church.
