Life Story / Obituary
Craig Scott Gummow, age 66, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Born on July 25, 1959, in Chicago, IL, son of the late Rodney and Karen (Nee: Gross) Gummow.
Craig graduated from Sullivan High School, “Class of 1978”. On February 4, 1994, Craig was united in marriage to Kathy Jo Peterson and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, family, and countless memories until her passing on June 18, 2025. For more than 31 years, Craig dedicated himself to his work at InSinkErator. After retiring in 2021, Craig embraced life’s simple pleasures, cooking meals for family and friends, cheering on his favorite sports teams, bowling and spending time outdoors hunting or golfing. Above all else, Craig was a family man. He treasured every moment with his children and grandchildren, who brought endless joy and pride to his life. His home was always filled with love, laughter, and the happy chaos of the many dogs he adored.
Craig’s memory will forever be cherished by his children, Alysa Gummow, Veronika Gummow, and Stephen Gummow (from his first marriage to Silvia Ortega); his beloved grandchildren, Nadia, Alexandria, and Mia; his siblings, Susan (William) Wintersteen, Cynthia (Thomas) MacKinney, Justin (Sarah) Gummow, and Ann (Jacob) Patty; along with his many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Those who knew Craig will remember his warmth, generosity, the way he could make anyone feel at home, his easygoing nature and quick sense of humor. His legacy lives on in the love he gave and the lives he touched.
A Memorial Service celebrating Craig’s life will be held at the funeral Home, 4:00 pm, Saturday, November 15, 2025. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation on Saturday at 3:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Preceptor Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
