Douglas D. Kauers, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 29, 2024 at his residence. He was born to Alma Baxley on April 1, 1939 in Milbank, South Dakota and was raised on the family farm by his grandparents, Fred and Folena Kauers and later moved to Racine at the age of 11.

He graduated from Wm. Horlick High School “Class of 1957” and then proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1964. On November 28, 1964, Doug married the love of his life, Shirley Deinken at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Racine, WI. They shared forty-six beautiful years together before Shirley passed away in October of 2020. Doug was employed with SC Johnson Wax, retiring in 1999. In his spare time, he enjoyed cars, especially Corvettes, NASCAR racing, golfing with his Friday golf group, and he was loud and proud of the Green Bay Packers. Always the life of the party, Doug will also be remembered for his sense of humor, his kind ways and his great love and devotion to his family.

Doug will be dearly missed by his children, Sue Norton, Deb Phillips, Kirk Kauers, Kelli (Ty) Smythe; grandchildren, Ryan Gallagher (Brenda), Erin (Brian) Morton, Kali (Cody) Banta, Alex (Kiel) Baitinger-Peterson, Melanie (Jay) Mantei, Justin (Candace) Rose, Ally, Lauren and Ashlyn Smythe; great grandchildren, Addison, Tucker, Tate, Ryder, Ginny, Allen, Brooks and Cooper; siblings, Donald (Dorothy) Kauers, Quentin (Diane) Baxley, Myron (Maxine) Baxley, Clayton (Judy) Baxley, Jenna Lee (Mary Lou) Baxley; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his mother, Grandparents and wife, Doug was also preceded in death by his siblings, Eldora Schmidt, Leona, Jennie Harter, Alvin Kauers, Dalton Kauers, Brenda Christensen, and Mike Baxley.

Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park, 9000 Washington Avenue on Saturday May 18, 2024, 11:30 a.m.. Memorials to the National Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601 have been suggested.
