Sarah Travis Cobb, age 76 passed away in her home on August 8, 2024. Sarah was born in Washington, DC on August 7, 1948, to John and Ann Quisenberry. Sarah graduated with prizes and honors from Harvard University in 1970. During her first marriage she attained her certification in elementary education from the State of Maine and taught special education in the local school in Abbot Village, Maine.

After that Sarah got enrolled in an MFA program in painting. After taking a course in non-western art at Northwestern University, Sarah was invited to go east to Columbia University in New York City to become the graduate student of Suzanne Blier. Eventually, Sarah earned her Ph.D. in Non-Western Art from Columbia. She then taught at Vassar, Rutgers, Fordham and Pratt University.

From the time she was young, a major aspect of Sarah’s life was a search for religious truth in order to have a relationship with her Creator. This search led her to investigate many different religions and denominations in the United States, India and other places. Around 1991, she decided to abandon Eastern Religions after studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. She always felt that the most meaningful achievement of her life was her baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on October 10, 1992. As she strove to speak to people about the truth of the Scriptures, she finally felt fulfilled.

On March 13, 1993 she married Ed Cobb who had taught psychology at Columbia. He was not only her husband but became her best friend. No matter what Sarah faced, she looked forward to seeing him again in the resurrection promised in Scripture (John 5:28, 29; Acts 24:15) Sarah loved art and painting and was a prolific reader. She was a very open minded, positive person who genuinely loved people and made friends easily. As Ed had preceded her in death in November 2022.

Sarah is survived by her sister Peggy Quisenberry, as well as her family through marriage to Ed Cobb: Stepsons Theo and Josh and their wives Rachel and Judy; grandchildren: Abby (James) Bockholt, Lexi (Sim) Talanoa, Jonny Cobb and Jillian Cobb. She is also survived by the loving Lockwood Park Congregation who she many times expressed, has been a very real family to her.

Visitation will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1600 Summerset Dr, Saturday, September 14, 2024, 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm with a service at 3:30 pm. Private inurnment will be held at Mound Cemetery.
