Janet Ruth Brasfield, age 86, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Francis House, South Milwaukee. She was born in Racine, WI, October 23, 1937, daughter of the late Lawrence and Edna (Nee: Anderson) Kosterman.

Janet graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, “Class of 1955”. She furthered her education at St. Lukes’s School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She then served in the US Air Force as a nurse. After leaving the Air Force, Janet continued in Nursing for over 30 years, 25 of which were at St. Luke’s / St. Mary’s Hospitals in Racine. During this time, she also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the College of St. Francis.

Janet was a member of Grace Church for many years where she was passionate about her involvement and interaction with her church community. She participated in mission work in Ukraine, Russia, Romania and Zambia providing medical care and spreading the gospel. She also volunteered in the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) Program for many years. Janet will be remembered for her passion and love for Christ. Above all she was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Janet is survived by her son, John A. (Jackie) Brasfield; daughter, Jenny A. Brasfield; grandchildren, Ryan and Aaron Brasfield; Vueve (Lanu) Cross; great grandson, Apollo; sister, Shirley (Clifford) King; brother, Ronald (Shirley) Rasmussen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jean (Donald) Morzenti and brother, James (Joanne) Rasmussen.

A Memorial service and Nightengale Tribute will be held at Grace Church, 3626 Hwy 31, Racine, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 4:00pm with Isaac Miller officiating. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service from 3:00 - 4:00pm. There will be a reception at Grace following the service. Memorials to CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) of SE Wisconsin or the Alzheimer’s Association have been suggested.
