Noted Racine artist Jerry L. Jarvinen, age 75, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020 at the Villa at Lincoln Park Nursing Home in Racine. Jerry was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on December 10, 1944. The family relocated to Racine in 1956. His parents were the late Wayne and Julia (Nee: Flygstad) Jarvinen.

Jerry attended Washington Park High School in Racine, graduating in 1963. He later attended Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, WI (renamed MIAD) where he developed his skills as an artist and craftsman. Jerry was a successful, talented and imaginative artist, creating hundreds of works of abstract and representational art in a variety of media, including oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors, stained glass, plaster and metal. He understood the importance and value of art in the lives of people. During his 50+ years of creative work, he made countless people happy through his generous gifts of free original artwork to friends, neighbors and others he encountered along the path of life. Jerry’s talent was widely recognized and appreciated. His artwork is in the private collections of numerous art lovers.

He will be dearly missed by his son, Sidney (Marcy) Jarvinen of Milwaukee, WI., his nieces and nephews and many dear friends and fellow artists. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers Donald and Robert and his devoted sister, Janice Nelson.

In lieu of an in-person funeral service, Jerry’s family is creating this online memorial and tribute celebrating his life and showcasing examples of his unique creative genius.
