Joan Hulkoff

Johanna “Joan” Hulkoff, 91, of Racine passed away peacefully on Thursday July 25, 2024 at Ascension Lakeshore Siena. Joan was born December 17, 1932, to the late August Kerber and Rosa Linda Netter, living in Kaufering, Germany. She received her education in the schools of Germany.

Seeking better opportunities for her family, Joan immigrated to the United States in 1957, coming thru Ellis Island with her former late husband Petras Petravicius and her daughter Angie. Originally Joan wanted to immigrate to Australia, she wanted to see kangaroos, but the immigration official suggested starting at the top of the list so USA it was. She chose Racine, WI because there were many Germans immigrating here. Joan applied for and received her American citizenship in 1981.

On 07/07/1972 she married Robert “Bob” Hulkoff and together they formed a blended family. Bob shared his love of camping and fishing, and with Joan they drove their family on many vacations to the Michigan Upper Peninsula for just that. Joan worked at Rainfare, JI Case and provided in-home childcare. She formed a special bond with her grandchildren as she provided care for them from birth to middle school. In her retirement she remained active and made friends wherever she went.

Joan was a member of the Eagles Club and Alano Alanon Club. She enjoyed eating at Kewpee’s and Friday fish fry at the Eagles Club. Joan and Bob spent every weekend at their camper in Jefferson County during camping season. There with Bob she would ride on their golf cart, dine at the lodge, and socialize with other campers. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory children Tom (Patty) Petravicius, Robert (Patti) Hulkoff, James Petravicius, Robin (Buck) Perrault, Lori (Tom) Erickson and William "Bill" Hulkoff. Grandchildren Alex and Nick Larsen, Michael (Amber Davis) Hulkoff , Auden (Erin) and Cassidy Erickson, Matt, Savannah and Liam Hulkoff. Great grandchildren Tanisha, Starr and Alvin Hulkoff, and baby Erickson due in 09/2024. Family friends Joel and Jake Goldwater, and family in Germany. Joan will be fondly remembered by her many friends and acquaintances.

In addition to her husband Bob and her parents, Joan was preceded in death by a daughter, Angie Larsen-Mattas. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alano Alanon Club of Racine. The family wishes to thank the staff of Lakeshore Siena, especially Marticka and Compassus for their compassionate care and support.

Funeral Services celebrating Joan’s life will be held at the funeral home, 12:00 pm, Saturday, August 10, 2024, with Rev. Laura Fladten officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, Saturday, 11:00 until time of service.
