Joan Marie Petersen, age 90, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Manor of Kenosha. She was born in Racine, July 5, 1933, daughter of the late Lawrence and Marie (nee: Entrop) Pier.

Joan was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School, “Class of 1951”. On October 6, 1956, Joan was united in marriage to David E. Petersen who preceded her in death on July 26, 2002. Joan was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing any thing from a scuba suit to an elaborate wedding dress. She also enjoyed knitting and would make baby hats for the hospital. She was a member of La Societe De Femme, Voiture 410 and American Legion Auxiliary, Post 21. Joan was an avid Brewer fan, but cherished time spent with family above all.

Joan was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by her son, James (Peg) Petersen; daughter, Susanna M. Petersen, grandchildren, Amy, and Ellen Petersen; sister-in-law Joan Pier; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Theodore Pier, William (Beverly) Pier, James (Gretchen) Pier and her granddaughter, Laura Petersen.

Funeral Services celebrating Joan’s life will be held at the funeral home, 5:00 pm, Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, Tuesday, 3:00 until time of service at the funeral home. Private entombment will be held at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum. Memorials to Racine Zoological Society have been suggested.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staffs at the Manor of Kenosha and Vitas Healthcare for their loving and compassionate care.
