Joe Lester Martin AKA “Joe L” 81, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, WI. He was born in Taylor, MS on October 26, 1943, son of the late Curtis Martin and Lellar (Carrothers) Martin. He attended Taylor Elementary in Taylor, MS. He left Mississippi in 1962 and resided in Racine, WI. He was united in marriage to the late Wanda (Lambert) Martin in 1965. From this former union three children were born, JoAnne Martin, Yvette Martin and Kenneth “Peachy” Martin.

On September 7, 1993, he was united in marriage to Alice Faye (Vaughn) Martin. From this former union two kids were born, Andre Martin, Steven "Mario" Martin, and stepdaughter, Latrina "Chelle" Cockrell.

Joe L was previously employed at J.I. Case Company, where he worked from 1968 until his retirement in 1998. After retirement Joe L moved back to Mississippi. In his free time Joe L enjoyed sitting in the garage with his friends, fishing, and landscaping/gardening. Joe L. was also a notable mama’s boy. Back in his younger days Joe L was a flashy dresser that loved nice vehicles. His infamous Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, his Grand Prix, his Thunderbirds, and let's not forget the "Pinto"!!!!! Back in the late 70s before WiFi, Beepers, and Cellphones there was the dreaded CB’s as a way to communicate with family and friends. Joe L had a CB in his house and car, his handle was BlackCat. Joe L was also an honorable International Mason.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, JoAnne Martin, Andre Martin, Steven "Mario" Martin, and stepdaughter, Latrina "Chelle" (Wardell) Cockrell; grandkids, Charles Toy Jr, Dajsha Parnell, DeAngelo D. Dixon, Noah Cockrell, Olivia Martin, and Kai Martin; great grandkids, Chase, Karter, Klayton, Kyro, Kysen, and Briella; siblings, Lelia M. Carrothers, Ossie R Hilliard, Frances M. Ramsey, Curtis Martin Jr "Rat" and Hubert Martin; special cousins, Zannie B. Martin, Herbert Martin; special nephews; Richard "Poochie" Martin, John Martin Jr.; special friends, Odie "OB" Jones, Mr. Weaver AKA "Weaver", Dan Burns; special nieces, Patricia "MooMoo", Ann Pope, and Easha Martin; plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Joe was a special gem that will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Yvette Martin and son, Kenneth "Peachy" Martin, brothers, Carvin Martin (Monk), Edward L. Martin (Rick); sisters, Shirley F. Martin, and Reatha Ramsey, special cousin, Frank Martin, favorite nephew, David Martin,and special friend, David Wayne.

Funeral Services celebrating Joe L’s life will be held at Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home at 11:00 am, Friday, February 21, 2025. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for visitation at the funeral home on Friday, 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will take place at Yocana Cemetery, Taylor MS.
