Jose Francisco Marquez Jr., age 50, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022, following a long illness. He was born in Racine, WI, June 27, 1972, son of Jose F. Marquez Sr. (residing in El Salvador) and Mary Ann (Nee: Quiroz) Escobedo.

Joey attended J.I. Case High School where he was on the wrestling team his freshman year. He graduated with honors with the “Class of 1991”. He also attended U.W. Parkside and worked at Cousin’s Subs for 25 years. Joey worked his way up to General Manager until his illness forced him to retire.

On May 24, 1997, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Amelia Gallegos and they were blessed with 3 daughters; Izabella, Maya and Eva. One of his fondest memories was when Izabella was born and he told Amelia that he wanted more children. One of Joey’s greatest inspirations was his grandfather Alejos Quiroz who taught Joey how to drive, work on cars, how to grill, mow the lawn, use the snow blower, and most importantly to be a family man. Joey was always there to help others, care, and support his family. It was hard on him when his illness forced him to rely on others for his own care. Joey was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church. He was a Renaissance Fair fanatic, and Star Wars aficionado and SUPER collector. He loved classic cars, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream, Deep Dish Pizza and Lasagna at Salutes. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family at home, or at the beach. He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Amelia; daughters Izabella, Maya, and Eva; mother, Mary Ann Escobedo; father, Jose F. Marquez Sr.; siblings, Monica Marquez-Sanchez (Alejandro), Maria Vanessa Escobedo ( Luis Perez), Miguel Escobedo, Salvador Escobedo, Lourdes Escobedo (Christian Pacheco), Loren Marquez ; nieces Shaila and nephews, Solomon, Leonel, Michael, Isaac, and Nolan, and great- niece Athena; his four legged friends, Charlie and Bear; and other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Alejo’s E. Quiroz, Sr., Patricia Luna Quiroz; paternal grandparents; Leandro Marquez, María Rivera de Marquez; brother, Frank Nicholas Marquez; uncle, Alex Quiroz, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Paul Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Richard’s Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Avenue,Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Jose Mario Nieto officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet Tuesday at the funeral home 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday at the church 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family have been suggested.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Ascension All Saints Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.
