With her family by her side, Juanita “Janie” Barrientez, age 78, passed away peacefully Friday May 27, 2022 at her home. Janie was born in San Antonio, TX, on July 3, 1943, daughter of the late Pablo and Eva (nee: Morales) Maldonado.

On July 14, 1961, Janie was united in marriage to Rodolfo “Rudy” Barrientez. Together, they have shared over sixty beautiful years together and raised five children. Janie was formerly a dedicated member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church, where she was involved in many activities and was currently a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Janie volunteered at the hospital gift shop for over fifteen years and served communion at the hospital and at Lakeshore Manor. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers, and testing her luck at bingo at Roma Lodge and Potawatomi. An excellent cook and baker, she will be remembered for her famous tamales and delicious cookies and cakes. A generous, kind and gentle soul, Janie will be best remembered for her great love and devotion to her family.

Janie will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Rudy; her children, Rosa Linda (Jorge) Mendez, Mary Jane (Alfonso) Arroyo, Jo Alice (Jose) Serratos, Rodolfo (Ana) Barrientez Jr., Anita (Juan) Cruz; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren with two more on the way; sister, Jovita Gomez; brothers, Henry (Margaret) Morales, Pablo Maldonado; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Janie was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Joe Gomez.

There will be no public viewing. Rosary services will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday June 2, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1100 Erie Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 10AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.
