Karen M. Garbo

Karen M. Garbo, age 77, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center, Mt. Pleasant. She was born in Racine, December 7, 1947, daughter of the late Verne and Rosella (Nee: Yarrington) Jensen.

Karen was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School, “Class of 1966.” On October 26, 1968, Karen was united in marriage to Thomas S. Garbo. While raising her own family, Karen was employed alongside her extended family at Garbo Motor Sales. She was a passionate Wisconsin sports fan who never missed a chance to join in on any fun that came her way.

Above all, Karen cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Though marked by challenges that might have broken others, she always rose with quiet strength and unshakable courage. Through it all, she never stopped giving, loving, or bringing joy to others. Her life was a powerful reminder that true strength lies in choosing to keep living fully—no matter what.

Karen is survived by her husband Tom, of 56 years; her daughter, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Shawhan; three grandchildren, Nolan, Sullivan, and Regan; siblings Mavis Clausen and Karen’s twin sister, Sharon Pitchford; in-laws, Karen McBurney, Richard (Margaret) Garbo; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven; brother, Allen (Joan) Jensen; in-laws, Jack (Shirley) Garbo, James McBurney; and nephew, David Clausen.

Private services were held, and a future entombment is planned at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to One’s Favorite Charity have been suggested by the family.
