Kenneth M. Sims, age 57, earned his wings on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Kenneth was born in Racine WI on January 27, 1968, son of John E. Sims and Deborah (Steve) Gardner (Nee. Jackson), and continuing stepson of James W. Lewis (J.W.).

At the age of 14, he accepted Jesus Christ in his life at Greater Mount Eagle Baptist Church where he was learning to play the drums. He attended William Horlick High School where he played basketball with all his heart and soul. Kenny proudly served in the US Army with an Honorable Discharge ranking as an E-4 SPC. He thoroughly enjoyed operating the tanks.

He later attained his Commercial Driver’s License and drove for many years until his health no longer permitted him to continue driving. He enjoyed his time driving for Custom Cuts in Milwaukee, WI. After his daughters graduated high school, he decided to move to Phoenix, AZ in 2013 to pursue a career in motorcycle repair. He excelled in the program and practically built his very own motorcycle from the ground up. He also completed a barber/cosmetology program and was a local barber for some time. He began to drive for Lyft until his health no longer permitted him. In 2022, Kenny moved back to Racine to be closer to his family for his remaining years. In his spare time, Ken enjoyed playing video games that simulated basketball, military combat, racing and astronomy. He also enjoyed getting together with family for any occasion and discussing politics. He will always be remembered for his meaningful conversations, his love for basketball, music and video games, his ability to persevere through adversity, and his infectious laugh and wide smile.

Kenneth leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Kendall Sims, Robert Harmon, Cameron Sims, Blake Sims and Ashley Sims; parents, John E. Sims and Deborah (Steve) Gardner; grandchildren, Nora Harmon and Victor Sims; siblings, Corey Sims, Javan (Stacy) Sims, Crystal (Homer) Buckingham and Deven Sims; a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Special friends held a place in his heart: Mark Caradine, Michael Chandler and Jerry Hill. Kenny also leaves behind cherished memories with sons of prior significant others: Julian, Ivan, Johny, and Marcus. Ken was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Reverend Nasree Jackson, Laoma Jackson and Winnie Jackson; and Paternal grandparents: T.C. and Arlie Mae Sims.

A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove, WI 53182 on Friday March 21, 2025, at 3pm. If attending and feel inclined, please wear Kenny’s favorite color, Royal Blue and White. All are welcome to fellowship with us for dinner after the service at Infusino’s Banquet in Racine, WI.

In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Robert Harmon.
