Marcia Lynette Garcia (Freund), 60, Racine, Wisconsin, went home to her Lord after a courageous battle with AML and GVHD on January 28, 2023, surrounded by family. Marcia was born to Norman and Esther (Olesen) Freund on April 19, 1962 in St. Paul, Nebraska. Marcia attended K-12 school in Brush, CO, graduating in 1980. She studied at Golden Valley Lutheran College in Golden Valley, MN, graduating with a degree in social services in 1982. Marcia was united in marriage to Jorge Luis Garcia on June 4, 1983 at Bethlehem Lutheran in Brush, CO. Marcia and Jorge bought her grandparent’s (Anna and Carl Olesen) home in Racine, WI. It was there that they made their home for 39 years of marriage. The marriage was blessed with two sons, Joel and Jordan. In addition to her callings as wife, mother and grandmother, Marcia was employed over the years. She managed programs at the Racine YWCA. She managed the job shadow program at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care Hospital. Most recently before her illness, she worked in the DA’s Office in Racine for the Victim Witness Program. Some of the activities Marcia enjoyed included traveling with Jorge to see family and friends, shopping, playing games, playing piano and singing. Marcia will be lovingly remembered by: husband Jorge; son Joel (Katie) Garcia, grandchildren Logan, Mason and Noella of Ocala, FL; son Jordan of Minneapolis, MN; brother Ron (Doris) Freund of Denver, CO; brother Randy (Stephanie) Freund of Vining, MN; Nieces Rachel (Aaron) Logan of Battle Lake, MN; Hilary Freund (Isaiah Garcia) of Denver, CO; Nephews Jared (Farrah) Freund of Denver, CO and Steven (Jennifer) Freund of Orlando, FL. She will also be missed by her Aunt Jeanette of Fremont, NE; many cousins and dear friends. Marcia will always be remembered for her love of family time, surprise birthday cakes, competitiveness in board games and wholesome laugh. Preceding Marcia in death were her parents, Norman and Esther Freund. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Aurora St. Luke’s (Garden Towers 12th floor stem cell transplant unit) in Milwaukee for their wonderful care and support. A service of remembrance and celebration of Marcia’s life will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, Racine, WI. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM with a dinner to follow after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Aurora St. Luke’s Cancer Care, Milwaukee, WI.
