Life Story / Obituary
Martin A. Peters, age 68, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Ascension All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Racine on November 7, 1957, son of the late Thomas and Donna (Nee: Brinkmann) Peters. Marty was proud to tell you he was named after both of his grandfathers: Martin Brinkmann and Anton Peters. Born the oldest of 4 siblings, Marty grew up in Franksville before moving to Racine. The family was involved in the cub scouts and his mom served as den mother for his troop. He held the role of the family archivist and story keeper and would joyfully share tales from his childhood whenever he had the chance.
Marty graduated “Class of 1975” from J. I. Case High School where he enjoyed fast cars, dirt bikes, singing in the choir, and playing the trumpet.
After high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 13 years as an Intelligence Analyst. His military service included nine years of active duty during prominent moments in history, specifically in Germany as the Berlin Wall fell, and the first Gulf War during Operation Desert Storm. His service was celebrated and he was awarded with the Kuwait Liberation medal, meritorious service medal and two bronze service medals, in addition to others. His service to his country was one of his proudest achievements and defining experiences.
Once his military service was complete, Marty entered the workforce in various occupations. He was a Jack of all trades. When work was done, he could often be found cheering on his favorite Wisconsin sports teams, or watching cars turn left for hours on end as he enjoyed his NASCAR races. Beyond sports and cars, Marty loved history, telling drawn-out jokes, pulling pranks, and beating everyone else at cribbage or other card games with a grin on his face.
Above all, Marty’s foundation was built firmly on his faith. Throughout his life he was a member at Grace Lutheran, Racine First Baptist, and Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church. He enjoyed singing hymns in his deep voice and being in the presence of those whom he could discuss the Bible with.
Marty walked his own path, lived a life on his terms and carried the stories of those he loved with him. His legacy lives on in his siblings, Scott (Rayann) Peters, Jeff (Tracie) Peters, Vicky (David) Danner; nieces and nephews, Samantha (Jered) Shilling, James (Moriah) Orth, Brandon Danner, Aaron Orth, Hannah Orth; great nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends. He was embraced with a warm hug on the other side by his loving parents, Tom and Donna Peters, grandparents, Sylvia & Marty Brinkmann, Anton & Verna Peters, uncles, aunts, cousins and additional loved ones.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am at the funeral home, Thursday, April 9, 2026, with Rev. David Huibregtse officiating. Private interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home to share stories and fellowship, Thursday 10:00 am until time of service. Please, come as you are - no suits or ties.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church, 1239 W. Mineral Street, Milwaukee, WI 53204 have been suggested.
