Life Story / Obituary
Mary Theresa Maritato, age 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at St. Alexius Hospital, Hoffman Estates, IL, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Racine, WI, April 17, 1932, daughter of the late Salvator and Josephine (Nee: Costabile) Mandala.
Mary graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, "Class of 1950.” On October 30, 1954, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Louis J. Maritato and were together for 64 years until Lou passed away February 22, 2018. Mary was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Racine and later St Peter Damian church of Bartlett. She will be fondly remembered for her hospitality and wonderful spaghetti dinners with family and friends. Her kind spirit and love of her catholic religion were hallmarks of her life. Above all, Mary treasured the time she spent with her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother and proud great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her 6 children, Josanne (Daniel) Pace of Gilberts, IL, Rosemary Maritato of Bartlett, IL, Mark Maritato of Bartlett, IL, Angela (John) D’Angelo of Sarasota, Toni Ann (Kevin) Forney of Gurnee IL, Tina (Tony Esposito) Maritato of Elgin, IL; 8 grandchildren, Brooke (Mike) Anderson, Kate (Timothy) Fontana, Jack (Erika) Wegler, Casey Pace, Gina (Alex) Groeli, Mattie Pace, Daryl Forney, and Leo Forney; great grandchildren, Parker, Logan, Emmy, Luke, and Elsie, Rae & Louis. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers George Mandala and Joseph Mandala.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 24, 2025, 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave, with Reverend Michael Peterson officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church for a visitation at 9:30 am. until 10:15 am.
