Richard Golden Frecka, age 92, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Primrose, Pleasant Prairie. He was born in Portsmouth, OH, February 28, 1933, son of late Kermit and Mary Ethel (Nee: Golden) Frecka.
Richard was a natural athlete and received a scholarship from UW Madison to play quarterback playing in 1952, 1953, and 1954, going to the Rose Bowl in 1953. He earned a degree in education and taught athletics and coached basketball and tennis at the Racine Extension and at UW Parkside. An athlete all his life, Richard loved all things sports related, especially golfing, teaching first aid-medical self-help, football fundamentals, refereeing and officiating games. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and always having a joke to share to put a smile on your face. Above all he will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family.
Richard will be dearly missed by his children, Kim (Shawn) Voss, Kermit (Janis) Frecka and Kelly (Rob) Bohmann; grandchildren, Cameron (Gina) Voss, Katie (Ryan) Bodnar, Amy (Brian) Bohm, Lauren Frecka, Karina Frecka, Alec (Emily) Aiello. Drew Gaynor, Sara (Gaynor) Eschmann, Robbie Eschmann; great grandchildren, Mila and Jae Voss, Carter, Elijah, James, and Millie Bohm, Ava and Matthew Bodnar, Leighton Eschmann; former wife and mother of his children, Alberta Surendonk; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Mary Lou Walters and brother-in-law, Robert Walters.
Private family services will be held.
