Richard William Louis Welsh, age 94, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Trust Living Oak Creek Place. He was born in Racine, February 24, 1931, son of the late Edward and Evelyn (Nee: Granlund) Welsh.
Richard graduated from Wm Horlick High School “Class of 1949”. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. On July 19, 1958, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Sarah J. Bonofsky and they were blessed with 3 children. Richard was employed by Western Publishing for 44 years retiring in 1992. He was a former member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. Richard was an avid sports fan who in his younger years played 12 inch fast pitch and had won 5 state championships. He also umpired for 20 years in basketball, volleyball and baseball. He will be remembered for his love for his family and sports. In his words “I liked to pester my wife”. About all Richard treasured time spent with his family and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Sarah; children, Allen Welsh (Sheryl McGrath), Thomas Welsh, Vicki (Glenn) Gessner; grandchildren, Sean Gessner, Cody (Michael) Gessner-Kelly, Krista (Kris) Baumeister, Kevin (Molly) Welsh, Danielle (Ivan) Vasquez, Andy (Carol) Welsh, Ricky Welsh, William Welsh; great grandchildren, Lucas, Alex, Adrianna, Krista, Jackson, and Carter; sister-in-law, Rosemary Gardner; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his siblings, Edward (Shirley) Welsh, Bob (Joan) Welsh, Diane (Dean) Gustin, Jim (Marie) Welsh.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be at Buckets 2031 Lathrop Ave. Racine WI 53405 on September 18th from 1-4 pm.
