Life Story / Obituary
Heaven gained another angel as Sandy passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home. She was born in Edgerton, WI. March 10, 1938, daughter of the late Clarence and Grace (Nee: Weber) Eckert.
Sandy graduated from Lutheran High School “Class of 1956” and enjoyed gathering with her classmates for their yearly class reunion. Sandy was employed by J.I. Case Co in her early years and then for 27 years at the Bosch Company retiring in 2000. She met the “Love of Her Life” Alfred E. Sorensen while key punching at Racine Hydraulics (later Bosch). They were united in marriage May 10, 1980, and had 35 wonderful years together. Al preceded her in death June 19, 2014.
Sandy was the most kind, loving, funny person you would ever want to meet. Stories, she had so many to tell. She loved all the holiday gatherings and meeting new people who joined the family. “They came in as strangers but left as family”. That was her strict rule throughout her life. She had many hobbies and was an avid bowler, golfer, and dancer. She was a tap dancer and ballet dancer and really enjoyed dancing at weddings. You could bet she would be out there on the dance floor doing the polka and the new dances the grandchildren would try to teach her. She will be remembered for her hugs. In her words “I am a hugger”. Sandy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her children, Kevin (Roberta) Johnson of Sparta, WI, Dawn Johnson of Racine, Colleen Stich of Racine, Wendy (Robert) Hayek of Iron Mountain, MI, Deanna (Paul) Stich of Racine, Brandi her Bichon sidekick; 19 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; her friend and companion, John Mata; several adopted sons and daughters; and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, March 26, 2025, 11 am with Rev. Laura Fladten officiating. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service 10-11 am.
Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Aurora doctors and nurses along with the Aurora Hospice Team for making her end of life journey a peaceful one.
