Sherman Barber “Snuff/John”, 73, was called home to take his eternal rest on Friday, December 6, 2024. He was born in Yazoo City, MS, on February 21, 1951, to the late Richard Barber, Sr. and Lucille Barber.

Sherman had many nicknames, but he was affectionately known to his family and friends as Snuff and John. He was a kind, loving man who had a strong faith in God. Snuff was a member of the Midnight Riders for 43 years and one of his favorite pastimes was riding with his second family. He enjoyed dancing and horse-playing; and he loved to grill and cook out. Sherman moved from Yazoo City when he was a teenager and began his journey to many places. He lived in Texas, Pennsylvania, Chicago, and Minnesota. He eventually retired from Concrete Mobility and made his home in Wisconsin. Sherman had the heart of a servant, and his greatest passion was his family. He was a great father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He loved life and he lived in every moment. He will be remembered for the many times he comforted us with the words, “it’s gone be alright”. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children: Jackie Smith, Phyllis Barber, LaToya Moore, Brandon Warren and Wili Allen; 36 grandchildren; 74 great grandchildren; sister, Carrie (Preston) Winfield; brothers, Willie James Barber, Albert Barber, and Melvin Barber; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Sherman was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Ann Stuckey; sons, Sherman Earl Barber and Terry Eugene Barber; granddaughter, Destaney Davis; grandson, LaTerryon Moore; great grandsons, DeMario Earl Barber, Jr. and Ryeland Gagnon; siblings, Spencer Barber, Laura Jones, Richard Barber, Jr., Cloraine Chambers, Andrew Barber, Frank Barber, Ella Mae Davis, and Johnny Earl Barber; paternal grandparents, Dave Barber and Amelia Barber; maternal grandparents, LeAndrew Hudson and Amanda Brown.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Dominion Church of God MPGT, 402 9th Street, with Pastor Timias Johnson officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.

A special note of thanks to Don Simon at Ascension All Saints in Union Grove; The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; family, friends, and our church family Freedom Worship Ministries for the many prayers and acts of kindness offered. May God bless you all!
