SISTER MARY (MARY THADDEUS) FISHER, O.P.

Sister Mary Fisher, O.P., 96, passed away at Lakeshore Manor at Siena, Racine on Saturday March 5, 2022.

Florence was born January 6, 1926 to Edward B. and Mary (nee: Darga) Fischer in Detroit, MI. On August 30, 1941 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1943 she was given the religious name Sister Mary Thaddeus. She professed her first vows in 1945 and her final vows in 1951. In 1968 she changed her name to Mary.

Sister Mary spent many years in service to others in teaching. She began her ministry in 1944 at St. Mary, Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were Holy Angels, Milwaukee; St. Charles, Burlington; St. John Grade and High School, Little Chute; St. Rose, St. Catherine High School and Dominican College, Racine; St. Luke, Plain; and SS. Peter & Paul, Green Bay. She also served in Michigan and New Mexico. After moving to Siena Center, Racine she worked in the Adult Learning Program, Senior Companion Program and the Center for Community Concerns. In April 2018 she became a resident of Lakeshore Manor and in June 2018 Lakeshore at Siena.

Sister Mary is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sister, Sister Barbara Fisher, O.P.; her sister-in-law Delphine Fisher; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister Christine Preslow and her brother Thomas.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a private Mass of Christian Burial at 4:00 p.m. will be held in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday March 9, 2022. Interment will take place at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
