Life Story / Obituary
William “Bill” Henry Markus, age 85, passed away Monday, July 20, 2026, at Ascension All Saints Hospital. He was born in Racine, WI, September 3, 1940, son of the late Harold and Esther (Nee: Held) Markus.
Bill graduated from Wm Horlick High School “Class of 1958”. He was employed as a Machine Repair Journeyman for years retiring from the Ladish Co. Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Kenosha HOG Chapter. He also enjoyed camping and rooting for the Green Bay Packers. Bill had a passion for art and will be remembered for his oil painting. Above all he treasured the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his loving partner, Ruth Mitchell; sons, David Mitchell and Geoff Markus; stepdaughter, Robin Bidwell; sisters, Lorie Sprague, Anne (Tamer) Yaktiyol; grandchildren; Jamie (Mark) Myers, Megan (Chris) Sheble, Heather Mitchell, Sarah (Zachary) Stein, Zack Mitchell, Jovan (Brittany) Lazarevich; 9 great grandchildren, Marvell, Coralynn, Mya, Brooklyn, Michael, Evelynn, Preston, Ryker, and Madilynn; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, John Markus, Alice Clay, Joanne Wilson, and Carol Falls.
Funeral services will be held at Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, 803 Main Street, Sunday, July 26, 2026, 3 pm. with Reverend Kaye Glennon officiating. Private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service 2-3 pm.
Memorials to Hospice Alliance have been suggested.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Heart Team at Ascension especially Dr. Flisak, Dr. King and Karen Murillo for their loving and compassionate care.
