With her daughters by her side, Ann Morkert, age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Ann was born in Racine on August 7, 1926, daughter of the late Frank and Carmela Vassallo.

Ann was a proud graduate of Wm. Horlick High School “Class of 1944”. In her younger years, she was employed as a timekeeper at Bell City. Eventually, she started her job at North Side Bank and while working as the first drive up teller, Ann caught the eye of a young gentleman, Melvin Morkert. They were married on May 19, 1956, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church where she was a longtime member and was active in the parish council and the Education Committee. They raised two daughters, JoAnn and Janet, and shared fifty-three beautiful years together before Melvin passed away in 2010. In her earlier years, Ann was very involved in volunteering at her daughters’ school and in her later years, she enjoyed keeping tabs on the weather, current events and watching cooking shows. Ann will be remembered for her sense of humor, her strong will and determination, and her deep love and devotion for her family.

Ann will be dearly missed by her daughters, JoAnn Morkert, Janet (Joseph) Maller, all of Racine; special granddaughter, Kayla (Max) Gill of Wautoma; sister, Bette Schulz of Racine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Lena Morkert; brothers, Vince (Kay) Vassallo, Charles Vassallo; and sister, Marie (Edward) Floyd.

Private family services were held with Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to Annabelle Acres Labrador Retriever Adoption Organization or to the Senior Companion Program have been suggested.
