Calvin Payne

Calvin Payne, age 63, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Kenosha Estates. He was born in Alamo, TN, March 11, 1952, son of Avalone Payne and Y.Z. Powell Jr.

Calvin graduated from Alamo Central High School and moved to Racine in 1971.

Calvin was a mechanic by trade and had worked at J.I. Case Co. for and number of years and then at General Business Services. Calvin was a member of Greater St. Luke’s Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing pool and working on cars. Most of all he treasured time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his parents, Avalon Dawson and Y.Z. Powell Jr; his son, Quincy Williams Sr. (Monica); stepsons, Antonio Mclain, Elijah Mclain, Rashae Mclain; grandchildren, Quincy Williams, Jr., Claveese Williams, Jayden Williams, Imani Tenort Wiliams, Stevonta Morris, Perry Carothers Jr., Laquish Dawkins; brothers, Austin (Marie) Dawson, Timothy (Arvia) Churchwell, Steve, Jeffrey, Leon, and Ira Powell; sisters, Lenora Earl, Jessie (Henry) Riddle, Stephanie Powell; his former wife, Carmen Mclain and her mother, Lula Mclain; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kyra Payne; son, Calvin Payne Jr.; brothers, Jerry, Horace, Gregory, and Jersey Joe; his sister, Joanne Scales; grandparents, Thomas and Florence Payne, Y.Z. and Gussie Powell Sr.; stepfather, Joe N. Dawson; and a very dear friend, Judy Williams.

A Home Going Celebration will be held Monday, August 24, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at Greater St. Luke’s Baptist Church, 1326 State St. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
