Life Story / Obituary


Carol Constance Pomeroy passed away Monday, March 4, 2024, at Sage Meadow Assisted Living. She was born in Racine, WI, July 4, 1938, the 6th of 7 children of Frederick and Constance (Nee: Kessler) Kowalsky.

Carol graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1956”. On April 29, 1961, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to John B. Pomeroy who preceded her in death March 3, 2018.

Carol’s passion was her family, and she loved being a mother and grandmother. She was a strong woman who took care of her 5 boys while her husband was on the road working for weeks at a time. She encouraged her sons to explore music, arts and crafts, sports and outdoor activities. Carol will be remembered for making the family holidays festive and special.

Carol was artistic from a young age and in high school had artwork exhibited at Wustum Museum. Her hobbies included painting, drawing, quilling, decoupage, sewing, quilting, needlework, cross-stitch, crochet, basket making and beadwork.

She enjoyed cooking family recipes, baking Christmas cookies, cakes and pies, and freezing and canning vegetables and jams. She also enjoyed camping, birds- especially cardinals, Florida, the ocean, collecting seashells, and lighthouses. Carol and John were members of the Circle 8 Square Dance Group for many years and retained long-term relationships with friends from childhood. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her sons, Andrew (Kristen) Pomeroy, Matthew (Tamara) Pomeroy, Thomas (John Blandford) Pomeroy, John (Leann) Pomeroy, Joseph (Bobbie) Pomeroy; 13 grandchildren, Aaron (Melissa) Pomeroy, Benjamin (Sarah) Pomeroy, Blaise Pomeroy, Ivan Pomeroy, Adam (Alyssa) Pomeroy, John D Pomeroy, Zoe Pomeroy, Colin Pomeroy, Taylor Pomeroy, Brooke Pomeroy, Rebecca (Zach) Harms, Harley May Pomeroy, Moses Pomeroy, Calvin (Allison) Berger; 4 great-grandchildren, Hadley, Brayden, Zander, Mason; brothers, Rev. Myron Kowalsky, Frederick Kowalsky (Andrew Luetgens); brother-in-law, Gill Zimprich; nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Elaine (Don) Longmore, Geraldine Zimprich, Dolores (Robert) Scholz, and Marilyn (Jerry) Ahnen.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 25, 2024, 12:30 pm at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street followed by interment at The Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm and Monday at the church from 11:30 am until time of Mass at 12:30 pm.

Memorials to the family have been suggested.
