Cathryn Mae Wood, age 100, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. She was born in Racine, March 5, 1914, daughter of the late August and Louise (Nee: Chadek) Kratochvil and had been a lifelong resident.

On May 5, 1933 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Earl J. Wood and together they raised 3 children, James, Robert, and Sue Ann. Cathryn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed housework and taking care of her family. She was known to the neighborhood children as “The Cookie Lady” and will be remembered for her smile that brought joy to those who met her. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her son, Robert (Marjorie) Wood of Irving, TX; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Ann Peterson; her son, James C. Wood; granddaughter, Amy Ann Tenuta; sister, Marie (Thomas) Held; and 5 brothers, Ernie (Marge), Joseph (Jeanette), John (Verna), William (Lois), and Richard (LaVerne) Kratochvil.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, January 12, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St. with Reverend Ronald Crewe officiating. Relatives and friends may meet at the church Monday 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Private entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church have been suggested.
