Charles “Charlie” Arthur Rice, 82, of Racine, Wisconsin, passed away on August 10, 2024, after a struggle with congestive heart failure.

Charlie was born in January 1942, to Arthur and Zeda Rice in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1959, he went on to study architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois.

After graduation, Charlie moved to Racine, Wisconsin and soon started his own architecture firm, Charles A. Rice, Architect, which he passionately worked at for more than 50 years. He became a founding member of Preservation Racine, to preserve and celebrate historical buildings in Racine. He was also an involved member of Rotary since 1988, having served in various capacities.

In 1965 Charlie met Joan and they wed the same year, going on to have two daughters, Elizabeth (Mike Cridlebaugh) and Catherine (Ed Seliga), and eventually enjoying two grandchildren, Michael and Julia Seliga.

One of Charlie’s greatest joys is having lived within view of Lake Michigan ever since he moved to Racine in 1964. He was an avid sailor and a member of the Racine Yacht Club, having owned several sailboats.

Charlie is predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his wife, his children, grandchildren, his sister, Margie (Max Kneer), and niece, Jennifer Piper Gruber and her family.

Funeral Services celebrating Charlie’s life will be held at Maresh Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home in Racine, Wisconsin at noon on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for visitation at 10:00am until the time of the service at the funeral home with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Preservation Racine.
