Charles E. (Chas) Edwards died on June 24, 2012 at the age of 87. A lifelong resident of Racine County, Chas was born Oct.12, 1924, to William J. and Mary Ellen (nee: Maney) Edwards in Waterford, WI.

Chas was educated at St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School, Waterford High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, from which he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism in 1952, followed by employment with the Burlington Free Press in 1953 and the Racine Journal Times in 1954 where he worked for 33 years as a reporter, Regional Editor, City Editor and Editorial writer until his retirement in 1987. After retirement he penned a variety of freelance magazine articles for national publications. He married Mary H. Spillane of Backus, MN, a fellow journalist, on Oct. 8, 1955 at St. Patrick Church in Racine, WI.

Edwards is survived by his son, Steven Charles Edwards and his wife Marta (Jurjevich), of New Orleans, LA., and five grandchildren: Mathew, Mark, Vera, Thomas and Mary Rose. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents, and siblings Floyd, Clifford, Cyril and Catherine Edwards Mucci: two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012, 10:30 A.M. at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Avenue, with Rev. Ronald J. Gramza officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9:30 A.M. until time of Mass at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be held at Holy Assumption Cemetery, St. Martin of Tours Parish, Franklin, WI
