Cheryl Jean Helland, age 77, passed away October 9, 2024, at Ridgewood Care Center after a battle with cancer. She was born in Manitowoc, WI, June 10, 1947, daughter of the late Lloyd and Harriet (Nee: Glaeser) Hynek. Cheryl moved to Racine, WI in 1955 with her family where she graduated from Racine Lutheran High School.

Cheryl was united in marriage to Roger Helland on December 2, 1983. She was employed by Racine Water Utility for 22 years until her retirement in 2002. Cheryl was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, sharing her love for God with her family and friends. She was also a member of Harbor Lite Yacht Club where she enjoyed boating, playing cards and socializing with all the members. Cheryl enjoyed spending time with family and friends, often hosting the gatherings in both Racine and in Naples, Florida where she spent her winters after retirement. She was generous with her time, volunteering with the Church and with Meals on Wheels.

She was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by her husband, Roger of 40 years; her children, Robert (Nicole) Laduron, Brentt Helland, Brian Helland, grandchildren, Patti, Claire, Samuel and Tyler; sister, Wendy (Alan) Dietze; a special nephew whom she loved as a son, James (Sandra) Harbaugh, a special niece, Vicki (Dave) Bertini; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parent’s, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Emily Helland.

A Memorial Service celebrating Cheryl’s life will be held 11:00 am, Monday, October 28, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1501 Erie St., with Rev. Jack Gilbert officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation Monday, 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. Private interment will take place at Knollwood Garden Cemetery, Manitowoc, WI on the following day 10/29 at 1:30pm. Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church have been suggested by the family.
