Life Story / Obituary

Clarita “Kita” A. Moe (née May) peacefully passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Clement Manor in Greenfield. She was born on May 9, 1929, in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Nicolas May and Anne (née Steil) May.

Kita was a graduate of Mineral Point High School, Class of 1947. She attended Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, and later completed her degree in Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville, where she met her beloved husband, Jim. They were united in marriage on June 27, 1953, beginning a loving partnership that would span more than 70 years.

The youngest of nine children, Kita was raised on a third-generation family farm outside of Mineral Point. Growing up in her close-knit family, she was instilled with enduring values of faith, perseverance, hard work, and the importance of education. From her mother, she learned the art of running a warm and welcoming home, and from an early age she also embraced the many aspects of farm life. Kita became quite skilled at cattle farming, confidently driving tractors and even winning top awards for showing cattle at the Wisconsin State Fair.

During their 71 years of marriage, Kita and Jim made their home in several Midwestern cities. Kita taught third grade early in her career and later devoted her time to caring for young children as an early childhood care provider. Throughout their lives together, Kita and Jim were deeply involved in volunteer work within their Catholic parishes and the communities they served. In retirement, they spent a year volunteering in Cincinnati through the Marianist Volunteer Corps, where they worked closely with and supported members of the city’s lower socio-economic community. They also shared a love of travel and enjoyed exploring many parts of the United States and Europe together.

Raising a tight-knit loving family was always their first priority. They nurtured a spirit of gratefulness, giving back to others, and the importance of faith.

Kita was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her family, including her four children: Ree (Tim) Millard, Maggie (Tom) McGinnity, Mike (Angie) Moe, and Karen (John) Moe-Stephens; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jim, and her siblings; Clarence (Connie), Gibby (Olivia), Harry, Trudy (Al) Spevacek, Clarine, Katherine, Dorothy and Joanie (John) Saunders.

Kita spent the final two years of her life living each day to the fullest at Clement Manor. She was the grateful recipient of the wonderful care and kindness provided by the nursing staff and activities staff there. Also, a very special thank you to Lorrie Peterson for her loving and compassionate care shown to Kita and Jim while living in Racine. Her family is eternally grateful for the nurturing and supportive environment she found at Clement Manor.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026 in the chapel at Clement Manor, 3939 S. 92nd St., Greenfield, WI. Visitation is at 10:00 followed by mass at 11:00. A light lunch will be served immediately after the funeral mass at Clement Manor. Private interment at Mary’s Cemetery in Mineral Point will take place at a later date.
