With his family by his side, Daniel John Nelson, 78, of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, died peacefully Thursday May 22, 2025, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Dan was born in Superior Wisconsin on July 28th, 1946, the son of the late Edward and Adeline (Nee: Plencner) Nelson.

Dan will be missed greatly by the love of his life, Julie Nelson (Kroes) of 30 years, married June 24th, 1994. Dan is survived by children: Austin (Shelley) Nelson and Kristine (Nathan) Schwartz. Grandchildren: Emilie (Jon) Dyer, Austin Nelson Jr., Elizabeth Nelson, Kayla Schwartz (Scott Blume Jr.) and Tyler Schwartz all of Racine, Wisconsin. Great grandchildren: James and Nicole Dyer. Siblings: Kathy Holton of Apple Valley Minnesota, Virginia (Bob) Belshaw of Rosemont Minnesota, and Steve (Kim) Nelson of Marinette Wisconsin, sisters-in-law Gretchen Nelson, Kathryn Nelson. In-laws: Sharon Kroes, Diane (Al- Dan’s best friend) Sinner, Randy (Joann) Kroes, Debbie (Jim) Roeder, Jeanne Kroes, and Ron Kroes. Many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. In addition to his parent’s, he was preceded in death by his , brothers: Jim and Ed Nelson, sister: Debra Nelson and brother-in-law: Bill Holton.

Dan was a dedicated employee at J.I. Case for 30 years. He enjoyed playing and coaching soccer. He was the president of the Wisconsin Soccer Association for 25 years and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993. Hunting, fishing, and going up to their cabin were some of his favorite past times.

A Memorial Service celebrating Dan’s life will be held at the funeral home, 5:00 pm, Friday, June 6, 2025. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation Friday at 3:00 pm until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary have been suggested.

A heartfelt thank you to our Granddaughter, Kayla who lovingly cared for her favorite person from the beginning to the very end. The bond they shared was truly special and a blessing to witness.
