Daniel P. Wright, age 82, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Ascension Living Lakeshore at Siena. He was born August 1, 1944, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to the late Lloyd and Madeline (née Shermock) Wright. Dan married JoAnne (née Schmitt) on July 20, 1991, in Racine.

Dan graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1962. He went on to earn a B.S. in Political Science and his USAF Commission from UW–Madison in 1966, followed by his J.D. from UW–Madison Law School in 1969. From October 1969 to December 1976, he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Subsequently, he worked for the City of Racine, beginning in January 1977. He served first as Deputy City Attorney and later as City Attorney, a position he held from 1997 until his retirement in August 2006.

Dan enjoyed his years working alongside the City Attorney’s office staff. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, participating in his stock club, and remembering his long-time close friend, Steve Johnson, and all their adventures. He had a passion for photography, board games (especially Scrabble), ice cream (especially ice cream), popcorn, watching rodeo, traveling, and tackling projects.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, JoAnne; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa (Jason) Carbajal, Jennie (Tom) Cramsie, and Michelle (Jeremy) Strobel; his grandchildren, Athene (Erica) Pepino, Madeline Duchac, Lourdes Carbajal, Marcus Strobel, Mason Strobel, and Malachi Strobel; his sister, Nancy Berger; his brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law, Mary (Chuck) Lueke, Dr. Denise Janosik, Barb (Pete) Hickey, Jane (Dave) Nielsen, Bob (Calli) Schmitt, Tom Schmitt, and Valerie Wright; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other friends. Dan was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Madeline Wright; his parents-in-law, Thomas and Josephine Schmitt; his siblings, Meredith (Don) Brill and Verne Wright; his brothers-in-law, Frank Berger and John Schmitt; his former wife, Christine Wright; and his pets, Tober and Fifi.

Dan will be remembered always for his loving kindness, his thoughtfulness, his practical advice, and his integrity. He is already greatly missed by those who love him.

A memorial service will be held at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, 803 Main St., Thursday, October 22, 2026, 11 am with Rev. Beth Ann Stone officiating. Full Military honors will follow. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service 10 – 11 am. A private entombment will take place at Graceland Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to HALO, the Health Care Network, or a favorite charity have been suggested by the family.
