David Frederick Siegert, 53, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle against stage 4 kidney cancer.

David was born in Racine, WI, on September 21, 1971, to Dr. Robert and Mrs. Susan (Kott) Siegert.

Dave did actually graduate from William Horlick High School in the fall of 1989. From there he spent his life working. He worked many jobs along the way and has fond memories cutting grass with Lamberton Lawn Service, The Bruce Co., and landscaping with Milaeger’s.

In 1989 Dave moved to Colorado. One of his favorite jobs was working ski lift operations in Vail and Beaver Creek, CO. He returned to Racine in 1991 and spent a few years self-employed as a handyman and subcontractor. In 1997 Dave began employment with All Saints in the maintenance department of the hospital. David worked there for 10 years and made many friends. In 2007 Dave became the lead boiler engineer for the City of Racine, retiring in 2024 due to his illness.

Dave’s favorite part at any of his jobs were the people. He believed work was always work, but the people you interact with everyday make it better. When asked “How’s it going?” Dave would typically say “Any day the sun’s shining can be a good day” (or any number of witty comments not fit to print). He always had a funny story to share about coworkers or customers.

Dave had many hobbies and interests. Growing up he enjoyed being on the swim team at the Racine Country Club, hunting and fishing with his grandpa, dad and uncles, and flying down a ski slope. He also liked sailing and participated in the annual Hook race for several years. Dave was always ready for a camping trip on the Wisconsin River or Washington Island.

An honorary Boy Scout, Dave was always prepared … ready with the perfect gadget or solution for any problem. He loved quality precision gadgets, tools, flashlights, pocket knives, and his absolute favorite, the titanium spork (which he was never without), calling it “the best eating tool ever made.”

As an avid photographer, Dave always loved being behind the lens. He spent a few years doing freelance photography for the Journal Times documenting the local nightlife in Racine. He was also the photographer for the Racine Harley Owners Group for a number of years. Dave found joy in “chasing the sun” as he would call it. He tried to capture the sunrise and sunset daily and took pride in the thought that he inspired someone to take a moment out of their day to pause and enjoy it.

Dave enjoyed supporting local businesses and would often be seen around town at bars, restaurants, festivals, beer gardens, live music events, etc. Raising money for children’s cancer research with St. Baldrick’s Foundation was also important to him. Dave continued taking pictures, riding motorcycles and supporting his hometown until he was physically unable to do so.

On June 5, 2020, Dave met Christine Duncan and he knew from that day she would change everything. Dave and Chrissy were united in marriage on July 12, 2024. They celebrated their love with many friends and family on October 12, 2024.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Chrissy; their four-legged son Dobby; his parents Dr. Robert and Mrs. Susan Siegert; siblings John and Gina Siegert, Lynn and Greg Giles; his in-laws, the Duncan and Martinez families; many special family members and very dear friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his black lab Ripley; paternal grandparents, Dr. Rudolph B. and Mrs. Margaret (Twiss) Siegert; maternal grandparents, John and Hazel (Harris) Kott; aunt Judy Kott Krueger; uncles, Rudy Siegert and Dr. Phil Siegert; cousins, Ann Siegert Underwood, Amy Siegert and Daniel Johnson.

A Memorial Service celebrating Dave’s life will be held at 5:00 pm at the funeral home, Friday, June 13, 2025. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation on Friday at 2:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in David’s name have been suggested to the following organizations: Saint Baldrick’s Foundation, Wisconsin Humane Society-Racine Campus, or the Blessed Solanus Casey Center.

David and his family extend their deepest appreciation to oncologist Dr. Michael Mullane; nurse practitioner Kristin Maney; infusion nurse Chantel; and two very special ICU nurses Kristine and Marisella.

We are grateful to all who followed along on Dave’s Journey - your love and support meant the world to David and all of us.”
