David John Raine, age 83, was called to eternal life after a courageous battle with cancer on November 6, 2016. He was born on June 23rd, 1933, in Chicago to the late Lorraine and Raymond Raine.

David attended Wilson Junior College and, after serving two years in the U.S. Army, attended the University of Illinois. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lois Jaszkowski, on June 9, 1956 at St. Gall Church in Chicago, Illinois.

Dave began his career in the printing business at Goss Press in Chicago and Rockford. He then worked at McCall Press in Dayton, Ohio, and eventually as corporate engineer at Western Publishing Co. in Racine.

Dave spent many years as a Boy Scout committeeman attending weekend and summer camping events. He loved fishing, boating and camping with his family. Dave was a very gifted artist as a wild fowl wood carver as well as making furniture and toys for his grand children. He started carving while recovering from a heart transplant in 1988. He felt so honored to have made five tables for the new St. Rita Church.

He spent many cold weekends in Milwaukee helping build the schooner, “The Dennis Sullivan”. He also built his own sail boat, which he and Lois enjoyed sailing on local lakes. He was President of the Holy Name Society at Louis de Montfort Parish in Oak Lawn, IL, a member of the Third Order of St. Augustine and the Vocation Team, volunteered at the Food Pantry and was an usher for over 15 years at St. Rita parish in Racine.

David received a kidney transplant in 2000 from a very dear and generous friend.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Neoma Blaha, and two brothers, William and Raymond. He is survived by his wife, Lois, his five children, Mark (Leah) Raine, Karrie (Andrew) Falkowski, Kimberly (Geoff) Crane, David (Karter) Raine, and Julie (Tim) Luettgen as well as 10 grandchildren, William, Karrie (Eric), Ariel (Andrew), Samantha, Andrew, Tanner, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Lauren and Jack, and 2 great granddaughters, Olive and Frances. Dave loved his whole family and was very proud of each of them. He is further survived by his brother Russell (Penny) Raine, and sisters Janet (David) Poff, and Cheryl (Dan) Selph. He is fondly remembered as a creative, playful and inventive man.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 12, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Avenue with Rev. Rich O’Leary O.S.A. officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy. 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9:30 A.M. until time of the Mass at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alpha Center, 3821 Spring Street, Racine, 53405, or the Health Care Network.
