Edward Julian Ayers Jr., age 87, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025, at home with his wife at his side. He was born in New Rochelle, NY, June 11, 1937, son of the late Edward and Magdalen (Nee: Caston) Ayers.

Edward graduated from New Rochelle High School where he excelled in Track and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin Madison. He attended church in New Rochelle at St. Catherines Church, AME Zion. At Madison he pursued his passion which was Art and earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Masters degree. Following graduation, he taught at Washington Park High School both in Art and as Assistant Track Coach. He furthered his education in Europe pursing his PhD. He excelled in both painting and sculpture. On December 11, 1972, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Joyce A. Bronaugh.

Edward was employed by Chrysler Corp for a number of years retiring in 2003. He was very health oriented and was a member of the YMCA for over 40 years where he pursued his other passion- swimming. Edward was an earth man and enjoyed gardening. He also enjoyed reading, music, and fishing. He will be remembered as a very friendly people’s person, a good listener, determined, not a quitter, and just fun to be around. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Joyce; his son, Chasen Bronaugh Ayers; sister-in-law, Wilma Bronaugh; nephews, Tony, Kevin, Shawn, Richard, Lyndon, Todd, Tighe, Marcus, and Darren; nieces, Debbie, Tori, Lisa, Tammy, and Judy; and many cousins and friends of New Rochelle, NY.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, May 28, 2025, 11 am with Reverend Thomas H. Poole Jr officiating. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service 10-11 am. Private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery.
