Edwin Francis Burgess, age 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Ascension All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, IL, May 24, 1952, the 4th of nine children of the late Robert and Mary (Nee: Mattingly) Burgess.
Ed graduated from Evergreen Park High School “Class of 1970”. On September 24, 1977, he married the love of his life Susan L. Zimdars. Ed was employed by the City of Racine for over 30 years retiring in 2007. When raising his family, he was involved in the Boy Scouts and served as a coach with Racine Youth Sports. Ed enjoyed vacations and anything outdoors especially fishing and hunting. Above all he treasured time spent with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Susan; 3 sons, Nicholas (Heather) Burgess, Terrence (Lea) Burgess, Christopher (Crystal) Burgess; 4 grandchildren, Damian, Nas, Aiden, and Jayce; siblings, Alice (Paul) Hunter, Richard (Sue) Burgess, Daniel (Gail) Burgess, Anne Burgess; in-laws, Lisa Burgess, Kathy (Craig) Oblinski; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by siblings, Robert (Aurea) Burgess, Stosh Burgess, David Burgess, and William (Carol) Burgess. Brother-in-law David Zimdars.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Ed’s life at Infusino’s Banquet Hall, 3201 Rapids Dr, Sunday, March 1, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A private service will follow for family and close friends. Flower arrangements can be made with Personal Touch by Julie, Racine, WI.
