Edwina M. Rybarik, age 91, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at her residence. Edwina was born in Racine, January 25, 1922, daughter of the late Henry “Harry” and Mary (Nee: Pfeiffer) Hegeman.

Edwina was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1940”. On September 27, 1941 at St. Edward Catholic Church she was united in marriage to John J. Rybarik who preceded her in death, March 25, 1997. In her younger years she was employed by Hamilton Beach and by Racine Unified School District for over fifteen years until retiring in 1987. Edwina was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Edwina enjoyed spending her summers at Big Arbor Vitae Lake and joining her husband at Navy reunions with his shipmates of the USS San Saba. She was an avid card player playing pinochle and schafskopf. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Linda Archibald, Gloria (Frank) LaBoda, Carol McGilsky, John “Skip” (Kathy) Rybarik Jr., Janise McMahon, all of Racine; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Nelson of Racine; nieces, nephews, her godchild, Frances Pivek; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and Henry “Bud” Jr.; and sisters, Cecelia Zenner, Adelaide Feest, Alma Hess, and Romayne Szuhai.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 4, 2013, 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, with Rev. Terrance J. Huebner officiating. Private interment will be held at the Bohemian National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. and Monday at the church from 10:30 A.M. until time of Mass at 11:00 A.M. Memorials to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or to the Salvation Army have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caregivers of Bright Star and Hospice Alliance for their loving and compassionate care.
