Life Story / Obituary
With her family by her side, Gloria M. Chiappetta, age 89, passed away at her daughter’s home on Monday, November 25, 2024. She joined her husband Tony at the table, who preceded her in death on May 22, 2008. She was born in Fargo, ND, on June 16, 1935, the daughter of the late Arthur and Marion (Nee: Hunter) Burmeister. The family moved to Duluth, MN, and then to Racine when her father joined Case as an expert welder.
Tony and Gloria proudly built their house and made it a home in Sturtevant, WI.
Gloria graduated from Park High School, “Class of 1953”. She attended the very first Rotary Post Prom. In her younger years, she worked as a carhop and a telephone operator. On November 28, 1959, she was united in marriage to Tony Chiappetta. She worked for many years at Lincoln Lutheran, Becker Shoop, Home Health Care, Southern Wisconsin Center, and Southern Wisconsin Veterans Home, from which she retired. She took excellent care of the residents, showing kindness and compassion to all. She was a member of the Marine Corp League Auxiliary, Agerholm-Gross Unit. Gloria loved traveling, Elvis, Bingo, the Packers & Brewers, reading, crocheting, making rag rugs, collecting postcards, and treks to the World’s Longest Yard Sale with her sisters and niece. She loved having a good laugh. More than anything, she cherished being with her family and friends.
Gloria was a fantastic Mother. She went on field trips, was a room mother, and never missed an Open House or concert—all while working the third shift. She once made birthday cupcakes for the entire Schulte school in honor of Dawn’s birthday. Neighborhood kids knew that they would be welcome at the Chiappetta home. She was thrilled to be a Grandma and a Great-Grandma!
She was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by her children: Debra Chiappetta, Dan (Michelle) Chiappetta, Dave Chiappetta, and Dawn Chiappetta; grandchildren, Sierra (Michael) Houlette, Chelcea (Shaun) Tyler; great-grandchildren, Harrison and Lily Houlette, Tristan, Tessa and Tallulah Tyler; sister, Sharon Catechi; brother, Gary Burmeister; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Viau, and brother-in-law, Bill Catechi.
Funeral Services celebrating Gloria’s life will be held at the funeral home, 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family on Tuesday, December 10th, at the funeral home, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. until the service.
