Life Story / Obituary
Gloria Mary (Neufeld) Kowbel was born March 27, 1929, in Racine, WI to Emil & Esther Neufeld. She passed away on September 5, 2025, at St. Monica’s Senior Living. Gloria attended Racine schools, graduating from Washington Park High School.
On Nov. 20,1948, she married Walter (Kuba) Kowbel at Holy Name Catholic Church. St. Lucy’s was her parish for many years until moving to St. Monica’s in 2023, where she would attend mass at 4 p.m., every Sunday as she was able. She worked for Oster Manufacturing until she became a Mom to Susan, Mark, Karin, Julia and Christine. Her passion for precision and routines kept her home running smoothly. In her free time she enjoyed counted cross stitch, reading, crocheting, watching General Hospital and the Green Bay Packers. Travels with Christine to Nashville, Las Vegas, out West and concerts allowed her to meet Darryl Worley, Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, and John Denver which were fond memories she cherished.
Gloria is survived by her children: Susan (Erv Keller) Kowbel-Keller, Mark (Bobbie) Kowbel, Karin Glasgow, and Julia (John) Gonzales. Grandchildren who survive her are: Stephen (Marcy) Keller, Rachel Keller, Nicole Kowbel, Nick Hamen, Holly Thomas (Brent Jensen), Sara Thomas, Nathan (Monica) Thomas, Ty Thomas, and Emily Gonzales. Her seven great-grandchildren are: Taylor Kaplan, Spencer Keller, Cameron Hunter, Payton, Mia, and Delaney Thomas, and Daphne Jensen. Nieces and nephews as well as other family & friends also survive her. Preceding her in death were her husband Kuba (2003), daughter Christine (2004), her parents and grandparents, in-laws Joseph & Pearl Kowbel, brother John (Carol), brother-in-law Stan (Dorothy), sister-in-law Charlotte (Gene), sons-in-law Steve Thomas & Ken Glasgow and grandson Cory Keller.
Many thanks to the staff at St. Monica’s and St. Croix Hospice for the special care and concern shown to Gloria & her family during past 2 years and the final days of her life.
