Helen Marie Lindsey-Buckner, age 76, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday July 23, 2023. Helen was born in Ferriday, LA on July 18, 1947, daughter of the late James and Estella (nee: Hall) Lindsey Sr.

She accepted Christ at an early age, at Christ’s Temple Baptist Church in Chicago. Helen was joined in holy matrimony to Alonzo Buckner, Jr. and through that union they had one son, Alonzo Buckner, III. Although their marriage ended after six years, in divorce, Helen devoted her time and attention to raising her son.

Helen graduated from Lucy Flowers High School “Class of 1965” and soon after attended a business college. She was employed with People’s Gas in Chicago for over twenty years until health issues made her retire. In addition to being a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and their choir, she also served in the choir, as a children’s Sunday School teacher, and as the president of the Usher ministry at Asia Missionary Baptist Church (Chicago), and sang in the choir at Christian Love Baptist Church, (Chicago).

Helen will be remembered fondly for her love of singing, her laughter and beautiful smile, her flower garden, candles, and Temptations Crockery. Above all, she will be best remembered for her great love and devotion to her family.

Helen will be dearly missed by her son, Alonzo Buckner III; grandchildren, Jo-Anita Lawson, La-Toni Davis, Lee Earl (Christine) Hill Jr.; 13 grandchildren, Najwa, Joshua, Justin, Niani and Nariyah, Jerome, Gabrielle, Taylor and Jeremiah, Jessica, Lenin, Bella and Leah; 2 great grandchildren, Elijah and Maya; siblings, Dr. Jacqueline (Samuel) Davis, James Lee Lindsey Jr.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Laura Louise Lindsey and Kimberly Linell Lindsey.

A Celebration of Helen’s Life service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1400 Warrick Way, on Saturday August 5, 2023, 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Dr. John Draper officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.
